Overview

Recovery Management is looking for a reliable, detail-oriented Repossession Spotter to support our repossession team in the Norwalk area and surrounding Southern California communities. As a Repossession Spotter, you'll patrol assigned areas to locate vehicles flagged for repossession, verify vehicle information, and report findings to our recovery agents in real time.

 

This is a fast-paced, field-based role suited for someone who is observant, comfortable working irregular hours, and able to stay calm and professional in sensitive situations.

**California Licensing Note

Employees hired to recover property on behalf of a licensed repossession agency in California must be registered with the Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) as a Repossession Agency Employee (RAE). Recovery Management will guide qualified candidates through the registration process, including the Live Scan background check, as part of onboarding. Candidates must be able to pass this background check as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated routes, neighborhoods, and locations (parking lots, apartment complexes, workplaces, etc.) to locate vehicles on active repossession lists.
  • Use license plate recognition (LPR) equipment, mobile apps, or manual verification (VIN, plate, make/model) to confirm vehicle matches.
  • Communicate vehicle location, condition, and surrounding circumstances to recovery agents or dispatch promptly and accurately.
  • Document findings with photos, GPS coordinates, and timestamps as required
  • Maintain accurate logs of routes covered and vehicles located.
  • Operate any assigned spotter vehicle and equipment safely and responsibly.
  • Follow all company policies and applicable federal and California law regarding repossession activity, including the FDCPA and California's Collateral Recovery Act.
  • Avoid confrontation; immediately withdraw and report if a situation becomes unsafe or if the vehicle owner is present and objects.
  • Maintain confidentiality of account and client information.

Qualifications

  • Valid California driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable using GPS, mobile apps, and basic recovery/LPR technology.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving or patrolling.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to remain alert during night shifts.
  • Must pass a criminal history background check (DOJ/FBI fingerprint-based, per California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services requirements).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Prior experience in repossession, field service, delivery driving, or law enforcement/security is a plus but not required.
